Shabbatluck Meal and Wandering Kabalat Shabbat Service, Aug 18th
August 18 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Shabbatluck and Wandering Musical Kabbalat Shabbat Service
We invite everyone to join us for Shabbat in the Woods in beautiful Carkeek Park along the Puget Sound. Free event – but please bring a dish to our Shabbatluck to share at this LINK. Please note that our shared meal will be vegetarian, dairy, parve (which can include fish). Please don’t bring meat, fowl, or shellfish.
We begin with a Shabbatluck meal in the Piper Creek Picnic area at 6:00pm. We will be at picnic sites 34, 35, and 36 in the Carkeek Park Piper Creek Picnic Area. You can see a map HERE.
At 7:30 pm, Heart of Shabbat Ensemble will lead us into the woods for an hour long “Walking Kabbalat Shabbat service” . The prayers of the Friday evening service are hanging in the trees as we walk from prayer to prayer singing the service. This is a unique Shabbat experience which will move your heart.
All are welcome. Bring a friend. In case of a predicted downpour, we will announce an alternative indoor location on Friday late morning, so please sign up to get notice by selecting a Shabbatluck option above.
To get to the Piper’s Creek picnic sites, take the one way road from the park entrance and loop around past the parking areas and play area. We’re after the road loops around and takes you away from Puget Sound. You will see a sign for Panim Hadashot at the picnic site. We recommend that you bring lawn chairs and blankets, especially if you like to sit on the ground. Picnic tables are available. Phone reception is very poor, but you can call 206 739-9924 if you get lost.
This event is a part of the Jewish Seattle Meetup Group and Panim Hadashot-New Faces which seeks to revitalize Shabbat hospitality. To learn more about Panim Hadashot, go to www.panimhadashot.org. For questions call or text Rabbi Dov at 206-257-1996 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
